How do I apply for the programs?
Acting and Musical Theatre
For the acting (BFA) and musical theatre (BA and BFA) tracks, UA Theatre and Dance schedules two audition days during an academic year: For the Fall 2021 Entrance, Audition Days will be held on January 9 and 16, 2021. After passing a pre-screen, students will need to register for the audition day beforehand. You can find more information on our acting and musical theatre auditions page.
For BA in dance, UA Theatre and Dance schedules two audition days during an academic year: one in the fall semester (in October) and one in the spring semester (in March). Students will need to register for the audition day beforehand. You can find more information on our Dance Program Auditions page.
Design and Technical Production
For design and technical production (BFA), students will need to schedule interviews with the faculty based on their interest area. Students may choose to schedule an interview by registering to attend the acting and musical theatre Audition Day. Students may also choose to personally contact the faculty and schedule an interview. Students may contact the following faculty to learn more about specific areas of interest and to schedule interviews:
Head of Technical Production (BFA)
More information: Design and Technical Production Interviews.
What is the difference between a BA and a BFA degree?
Students pursuing BFA degrees will need 8-12 additional credit hours of required coursework to graduate. While some classes are required for BFA students, they are open to BA students as electives. Opting for the BFA also limits a student’s ability to take on an additional major and graduate in four years.
Ultimately, both the BA and the BFA are housed in the same department and the classes are taught by the same faculty members. Both degrees are held to the same academic and artistic standards and rigor, and both degrees prepare graduates for competitive professional work.
