  1. How do I apply for the programs?

For the Acting (BFA) and Musical Theatre (BA and BFA) tracks, UA Theatre and Dance schedules two audition days during an academic year – one in the fall semester (in the month of December) and one in the spring semester (in the month of November). After passing a pre-screen, students will need to register for the audition day beforehand. You can find more information at theatre.ua.edu/acting-musical-theatre-auditions.

For BA in Dance, UA Theatre and Dance schedules two audition days during an academic year – one in the fall semester (in the month of October) and one in the spring semester (in the month of March). Students will need to register for the audition day beforehand. You can find more information at theatre.ua.edu/ba-programs/ba-in-dance/dance-program-auditions.

For Design and Technical Production (BFA), students will need to schedule interviews with the faculty based on their interest area. Students may choose to schedule an interview by registering to attend the Acting and Musical Theatre Audition Day. Students may also choose to personally contact the faculty and schedule an interview. Students may contact the following faculty to learn more about specific areas of interest and to schedule interviews:

  • Head of Technical Production (BFA)
    Dominic Yeager: dmyeager@ua.edu / 205-348-3844

More information available at theatre.ua.edu/design-technical-production-interviews/

Please note that you will also need to apply to the school itself. More information is available at gobama.ua.edu for Undergraduate Admissions and at graduate.ua.edu for Graduate Admissions.

  1. What is the difference between a BA and a BFA degree?

Students pursuing the BFA degrees will need 8-12 additional credit hours of required coursework to graduate. While some classes are required for BFA students, they are open to BA students as electives. Opting for the BFA also limits a student’s ability to take on an additional major and graduate in four years.

Ultimately, both the BA and the BFA are housed in the same department and the classes are taught by the same faculty members. Both degrees are held to the same academic and artistic standards and rigor while preparing all graduates for the competitive professional work.

  1. How do I apply to The University of Alabama?

  1. Does the department offer any financial aid?

The department may offer scholarships in addition to the several scholarships, grants and financial aid offered by The University of Alabama. Students can find more information about the various options at theatre.ua.edu/scholarships.
