Performance Groups and Programs
SummerTide is the professional summer theatre of The University of Alabama. Located in Gulf Shores, Ala., SummerTide presents a musical production for one month each summer. Past highlights include Smokey Joe’s Café, Godspell, Grease, and the original musical revue Jubilee!. Students cast in the production also teach a theatre camp for local youth. American Ballet Theatre (ABT) Summer Intensive
In 1997, The University of Alabama was chosen by American Ballet Theatre for the first American Ballet Theatre Summer Intensive ever to be held outside of New York or in partnership with a university.
The ABT Summer Intensive offers top quality teachers and master guest teachers that are dedicated to the learning process and growth of each individual student. The program focuses on developing well-rounded dancers by exposure to a wide variety of disciplines with an emphasis on classical ballet technique and key elements of ABT’s National Training Curriculum. Participants are selected for the Intensive through a nationwide audition tour.
New York Showcase
Selected students have the opportunity to participate in the annual New York Showcase during their final spring semester. The showcase is performed for an audience of invited guests including AEA and SAG talent agents, casting directors, and other industry professionals.
Dance Alabama! is a student organization for dancers that produces a concert each semester of original student choreography. Voted one of the “Top 10 Things to See before You Graduate,” Dance Alabama! concerts showcase choreography that is conceptually original, technically proficient and well-crafted. Nu Delta Alpha
The dance honor society, Nu Delta Alpha, was established to recognize dance students for academic and artistic achievement. Nu Delta Alpha is designed for dance education students, dance educators and professional dancers to express their devotion to the art form by sharing, recognizing and promoting dance education within schools and communities.
Crimson Stage exists to provide opportunities for University of Alabama students to lead performance projects, both original and published. Our mission is to produce student led works in a setting that encourages the development of individual artistic pursuits in the theatre and dance students of The University of Alabama.
