Undergraduate Programs

Scholarships

The Department of Theatre and Dance may offer scholarships in addition to the variety of scholarships, grants and financial aid offered by the University.

Acting

Incoming freshmen are eligible for scholarships that are awarded based on merit. Students must interview for scholarships and decisions are made based on faculty belief of how a student will contribute to the department in class, on stage, and in the hallways. Scholarships are renewable upon satisfactory review and academic performance.

Sophomore majors may audition and interview for scholarship consideration; Junior majors may also apply for scholarships, no audition required.

Acting scholarship students must audition for all shows and must be in an acting class each semester if one is available.

For more information, contact Seth Panitch at spanitch@ua.edu or (205) 348-3845.

Musical Theatre

Talent-based scholarships may be offered to incoming freshmen and are renewable if certain criteria are met each semester and funds are available.  All musical theatre students may request a small need-based scholarship by communicating directly with Stacy Alley, director of musical theatre.

For more information, contact Stacy Alley at slalley@ua.edu or (205) 348-6247.

Design and Technical Production

Scholarships are awarded based on the student’s potential to excel in their creative activities while studying in theatre design and technical production. Scholarships are renewable upon satisfactory review and academic performance. To be considered for scholarships, students must complete an interview and portfolio review with the appropriate theatre faculty.

Dance

The dance program offers scholarships that take into account academic strengths, financial need, departmental citizenship and technical and artistic ability.

Incoming freshmen are not eligible to apply for dance program scholarships. Upperclassmen may apply for scholarship consideration every spring semester; no audition is required.
