UA Theatre and Dance partners with Al’s Pals

Take your Daughters and Sons to WorkUA theatre and dance is happy to announce a partnership with the afterschool program, Al’s Pals. Beginning in February, twelve of our graduate students and a group of undergraduates will be going into Northington Elementary to teach a theatre curriculum to 4th and 5th graders.

We are excited for the opportunity to send our students farther into the Tuscaloosa community and to combine forces with an incredible program like Al’s Pals. Al’s Pals serves four different Elementary Schools in the Tuscaloosa area by pairing over 550 undergraduate mentors with elementary students.

There has been a lot of excitement in the Department of Theatre and Dance these last few weeks as our students compare schedules and plan lessons for this spring. The eight week project will guide Northington students through familiar fairy-tales by using activities and games that focus on key learning points. By the end of the semester the Northington students will have learned new methods of communication, skills that make a good team member and to identify the integral parts of a story. We can’t wait for February to arrive!
