Dance department to host Alabama Repertory Dance Theatre

Alabama Repertory Dance Theatre will be performing Oct. 13-15 at 7:30 p.m. and Oct. 16 at 5:30 p.m. CW | Layton Dudley

The University of Alabama’s Dance Department, which was recently ranked 15th in the nation for dance
programs in public and private universities, will perform Alabama Repertory Dance Theatre (ARDT) Oct. 13
to 15 at 7:30 p.m. and Oct. 16 at 5:30 p.m.

Tickets for ARDT can be purchased at the box office or at ua.tix.com.

“There will be modern, jazz fusion, ballet and dance theatre,” said Rita Snyder, associate professor of dance.
The show will pull samples from a variety of styles and eras.

“It is a range of work that is accessible to the audience,” said Cornelius Carter, director of dance.
The show has new dances and dancers every year. Carter finds this group to be mature and professional.

“The company really is taking on challenging work,” he said.
Senior dancer Aaron Carter said he enjoys being in the show because you get to create art and share in the
human experience.

“Dance is really cool,” Carter said. “There is a lot of communication that isn’t verbal.”
Sophomore dancer Jay Tavares said people should come see ARDT because it is a pleasant change from
football. He said attendees will see athleticism and poetry at the same time.

Senior dancer Tiffany Heimbach had advise for the guys on campus.
“Bring your girlfriends,” Heimbach said. “You’ll get bonus points.”
