Alabama Repertory Dance Theatre

Tuscaloosa, AL – UA Theatre and Dance presents the biannual Alabama Repertory Dance Theatre (ARDT) on October 13th -15th at 7:30 p.m. and October 16th at 5:30 p.m. in Morgan Auditorium located at 428 Colonial Drive.

ARDT, a fan favorite, returns with a new collection of classic and contemporary dance pieces choreographed by four of UA’s award-winning dance faculty and internationally recognized guest choreographer Natosha Washington. You will be amazed by the extraordinary UA dance students in a variety of dances that showcase the diversity in talent here at The Capstone.
Natosha Washington has been a professional choreographer and director since 2004 after receiving her bachelor’s degree in Modern Dance from The University of Utah. She choreographed an original contemporary piece for ARDT this semester that showcases her distinct style of partnering. According to Associate Professor of Dance, Sarah Barry, students learned a new process from Natosha and adapted to her unique choreography set to a “collage of music.”

Barry also choreographed a piece for this fall’s show entitled “The Idea of Absence” inspired by artist John Baldessari’s “I am Making Art” from 1971. Her piece embodies the essence of basic, pedestrian movement, using challenging patterns and formations as opposed to complex technique. Associate Professor of Dance, Rita Snyder worked on a collaborative piece for ARDT, partnering with musicians to choreograph a dance set to Edgar Allen Poe poetry. Live reading of text takes place as a part of the dance, creating just one of many unique experiences that make up this must-see event.

Tickets are $14 for UA students, $17 for UA faculty and staff and seniors, and $20 for adults. Tickets are available in Rowand-Johnson Hall at the ticket office in the front lobby, by phone at (205) 348-3400 or online at ua.tix.com.
