Performance Groups and Programs

SummerTide Theatre

SummerTide is the professional summer theatre of The University of Alabama. Located in Gulf Shores, Ala., SummerTide presents a musical production for one month each summer. Past highlights include Smokey Joe’s Café, Godspell, Grease, and the original musical revue Jubilee!. Students cast in the production also teach a theatre camp for local youth. Alpha Psi Omega

Alpha Psi Omega is a national honor society for students studying theatre. The UA Gamma Gamma chapter presents several productions each semester, typically including a play or musical in our studio theatre and regular installments of Guerilla Theatre, a variety show featuring theatrical, dance, musical, and literary acts. Crimson Stage

Crimson Stage produces student-led works in a setting that encourages the development of individual artistic pursuits in the theatre and dance students of The University of Alabama. The vision is to expand the production knowledge of UA Theatre and Dance students by attracting projects of varying styles and producing them. These productions help teach UA students how to be self-sufficient artists during their undergraduate or graduate studies. Learn more on the Crimson Stage website.

Dance Alabama!

Dance Alabama! is a student organization for dancers that produces a concert each semester of original student choreography. Voted one of the “Top 10 Things to See before You Graduate,” Dance Alabama! concerts showcase choreography that is conceptually original, technically proficient and well-crafted. Dance Alabama Film Festival

Dance Alabama Film Festival is a student-led organization dedicated to promoting collaboration in dance, music composition, and cinematography through the creation and exhibition of original screen dances. DAFF oversees the creation and presentation of films at an annual public screening, as well as fundraising, community outreach, and events to facilitate collaboration. Dance Honor Society

The DHSA is a society based on striving for academic excellence, committed public service, and a love for dance. The group takes on multiple service projects throughout the year, including charity drives, scholarship fundraising campaigns for dancers in need, and an annual Capstone Village Retirement Home Holiday Performance in December.

Yonder Contemporary Dance Company

YCDC is a collective performance group that encourages and seeks out collaborations with artists, composers, creative thinkers, and makers. Local and regional tours are performed in advance of, and in preparation for, a biennial creative research and international performance event, typically at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in Scotland. The company is renewed every two years as the scope of the project adjusts and new creators and performers audition for the company.

UA Theatre and Dance is accredited by both the National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST) and the National Association of Schools of Dance (NASD).
