LA RONDE talkback

Join us as we take to the Allen Bales stage for the final time this school year with La Ronde, the gripping story of romance between classes in 1890’s Vienna. The work by playwright Arthur Schnitzler is a commentary on the rigid morals and class system of the time. By pairing various couples of characters through ten interconnected scenes, La Ronde shows how romance and sex can break down the barriers of society and class. Beginning with a tantalizing scene between a soldier (David Trump) and a lady of the night (Sarah Grace Valleroy), the play travels through all classes and professions connecting the characters, until once again the lady of the night arrives to conclude the performance with Vienna’s Count (Ian Anderson).

Following the performance on April 14 our Friday Night Talkback Series will feature Dr. James Crank from the UA English department. He will speak further on the themes of sexuality and class systems within the production. Dr. Crank received his M.A. and Ph.D from the University of North Carolina with a focus on the representations of class, race and sexuality in literature. Having previously worked with the play La Ronde during his youth, he is excited to delve once again into the intrigue and passion of 1890’s Vienna and offer a unique look into this interesting cultural interaction.
